Skye Fargo finds himself alone with his faithful Ovaro stranded in the desert,during a long drought,out of water,at the end of his endurance and it looks like death is inevitable in Apache country,west of the Pecos River in West Texas.
As a last hope, he finds a humble cabin with hill country inhabitants who have little in life but a source of water and a lot of built-up grudges.
While the water is a Godsend to Fargo and his hourse ;he lands in the middle of one of the wildest families he has ever encountered ;with a tribe of Apache ready to wipe them out;that is if another family with a more prosperous ranch :but also on the edge of disaster due to their lack of water,and a determination to do anything necessary to get to the available water;even if it means a fight to the end.
